GAIL (India)
Improved physical performance
Consolidated net sales (including other operating income) of GAIL (India) has declined 1.36% to Rs 32756.32 crore.  Sales of Natural Gas segment has gone up 61.61% to Rs 2,665.82 crore (accounting for 6.44% of total sales).  Sales of LPG segment has gone up 6.37% to Rs 185.89 crore (accounting for 0.45% of total sales).  Sales of Natural Gas Trading segment fell 7.55% to Rs 31,523.79 crore (accounting for 76.13% of total sales).  Sales of Petrochemicals segment has gone up 65.97% to Rs 2,256.31 crore (accounting for 5.45% of total sales).  Sales of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment has gone up 4.40% to Rs 1,425.90 crore (accounting for 3.44% of total sales).  Sales of City Gas Distribution segment has gone up 12.95% to Rs 3,090.17 crore (accounting for 7.46% of total sales).  Sales of Others segment has gone down 13.42% to Rs 259.39 crore (accounting for 0.63% of total sales).  Inter-segment sales rose Rs 8,420.43 crore to Rs 8,574.14 crore. 

Profit before interest, tax and other unallocable items (PBIT) has jumped 422.36% to Rs 3,489.65 crore.  PBIT of Natural Gas reported profit of Rs 979.78 crore compared to loss of Rs 16.41 crore.  PBIT of LPG segment fell 4.57% to Rs 75.60 crore (accounting for 2.17% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Natural Gas Trading segment rose 129.13% to Rs 1,507.65 crore (accounting for 43.20% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Petrochemicals reported profit of Rs 533.41 crore compared to loss of Rs 400.94 crore.  PBIT of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment rose 166.54% to Rs 326.59 crore (accounting for 9.36% of total PBIT).  PBIT of City Gas Distribution segment rose 69.06% to Rs 150.29 crore (accounting for 4.31% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Others reported loss of Rs 83.67 crore compared to profit of Rs 136.76 crore. 

PBIT margin of Natural Gas segment rose from negative 0.99% to 36.75%.  PBIT margin of LPG segment fell from 45.33% to 40.67%.  PBIT margin of Natural Gas Trading segment rose from 1.93% to 4.78%.  PBIT margin of Petrochemicals segment rose from negative 29.49% to 23.64%.  PBIT margin of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment rose from 8.97% to 22.90%.  PBIT margin of City Gas Distribution segment rose from 3.25% to 4.86%.  PBIT margin of Others segment fell from 45.65% to 32.26%.  Overall PBIT margin rose from 1.60% to 8.43%. 

Operating profit margin has jumped from 1.67% to 11.75%, leading to 592.49% rise in operating profit to Rs 3,848.64 crore.  Raw material cost as a % of total sales (net of stock adjustments) increased from 6.95% to 7.98%.   Purchase of finished goods cost fell from 82.10% to 71.59%.   Employee cost increased from 1.58% to 1.94%.   Other expenses fell from 7.64% to 7.08%.  

Other income fell 56.73% to Rs 236.52 crore.  PBIDT rose 270.58% to Rs 4085.16 crore.  Provision for interest rose 49.13% to Rs 159.47 crore.  Loan funds rose to Rs 21,793.77 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 17,816.18 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Inventories rose to Rs 5,970.00 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 5,917.92 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Sundry debtors were lower at Rs 9,580.27 crore as of 31 March 2024 compared to Rs 10,679.61 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Cash and bank balance rose to Rs 1,712.13 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 1,102.97 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Investments rose to Rs 21,910.04 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 17,248.32 crore as of 31 March 2023 . 

PBDT rose 294.36% to Rs 3925.69 crore.  Provision for depreciation rose 96.68% to Rs 1240.77 crore.  Fixed assets increased to Rs 75,679.93 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 63,487.08 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Intangible assets increased from Rs 2,856.29 crore to Rs 3,135.35 crore. 

Profit before tax grew 636.42% to Rs 2,684.92 crore.  Share of profit/loss was 27.76% higher at Rs 414.35 crore.  Provision for tax was expense of Rs 624.96 crore, compared to Rs 46.17 crore.  Effective tax rate was 20.16% compared to 6.70%.

Minority interest decreased 34.58% to Rs 5.60 crore.  Net profit attributable to owners of the company increased 289.28% to Rs 2,468.71 crore. 

Equity capital stood at Rs 6,575.10 crore as of 31 March 2024 to Rs 6,575.10 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Per share face Value remained same at Rs 10.00. 

Promoters’ stake was 51.52% as of 31 March 2024 ,compared to 51.52% as of 31 March 2023.

During the year, Natural Gas transmission volume registered an increase of 12% to 120.46 MMSCMD as against 107.28 MMSCMD in FY23. Gas marketing volume stood at 98.45 MMSCMD in FY24 as against 94.91 MMSCMD in FY23. LHC sales registered an increase of 7% to 998 TMT as against 929 TMT & Polymer sales jumped up by 97% to 787 TMT as against 399 TMT in comparison to previous year.

During the quarter, Natural Gas transmission volume stood at 123.65 MMSCMD in Q4 FY24 as against 121.54 MMSCMD in Q3 FY24. Gas marketing volume stood at 99.90 MMSCMD as against 98.14 MMSCMD in previous quarter. LHC sales registered an increase of 5% to 261 TMT as against 249 TMT & Polymer sales jumped up by 13% to 242 TMT as against 215 TMT in comparison to previous quarter. 

Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, GAIL said that the robust performance during FY 2024 is primarily driven by better physical performance across all major segments, despite lower prices in Petrochemicals and Liquid Hydro-Carbons. He also stated that the Company has incurred a Capex of Rs 11,426 crore during the FY24.

He further stated that GAIL’s Board approved laying of C2/C3 liquid pipeline from Vijaipur to Auraiya having estimated Project Cost of Rs 1,792 Crores with commissioning period of 32 months. The project will augment feedstock availability with additional polymer production at Pata Petrochemical Complex, reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Full year results analysis

Net sales (including other operating income) of GAIL (India) has declined 8.54% to Rs 133228.46 crore.  Sales of Natural Gas segment has gone up 54.46% to Rs 10,288.82 crore (accounting for 6.26% of total sales).  Sales of LPG segment has gone up 1.42% to Rs 731.87 crore (accounting for 0.45% of total sales).  Sales of Natural Gas Trading segment fell 19.89% to Rs 1,27,433.96 crore (accounting for 77.59% of total sales).  Sales of Petrochemicals segment has gone up 57.68% to Rs 7,753.41 crore (accounting for 4.72% of total sales).  Sales of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment has gone down 8.87% to Rs 5,075.83 crore (accounting for 3.09% of total sales).  Sales of City Gas Distribution segment has gone up 5.01% to Rs 11,851.69 crore (accounting for 7.22% of total sales).  Sales of Others segment has gone down 9.17% to Rs 1,102.25 crore (accounting for 0.67% of total sales).  Inter-segment sales came down from Rs 43,564.77 crore to Rs 30,739.21 crore. 

Profit before interest, tax and other unallocable items (PBIT) has jumped 92.66% to Rs 12,768.44 crore.  PBIT of Natural Gas segment rose 134.94% to Rs 4,510.11 crore (accounting for 35.32% of total PBIT).  PBIT of LPG segment fell 14.00% to Rs 317.06 crore (accounting for 2.48% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Natural Gas Trading segment rose 91.00% to Rs 6,166.76 crore (accounting for 48.30% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Petrochemicals reported profit of Rs 125.45 crore compared to loss of Rs 1,060.85 crore.  PBIT of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment fell 37.36% to Rs 769.53 crore (accounting for 6.03% of total PBIT).  PBIT of City Gas Distribution segment rose 30.63% to Rs 560.65 crore (accounting for 4.39% of total PBIT).  PBIT of Others segment fell 37.93% to Rs 318.88 crore (accounting for 2.50% of total PBIT). 

PBIT margin of Natural Gas segment rose from 28.82% to 43.84%.  PBIT margin of LPG segment fell from 51.09% to 43.32%.  PBIT margin of Natural Gas Trading segment rose from 2.03% to 4.84%.  PBIT margin of Petrochemicals segment rose from negative 21.57% to 1.62%.  PBIT margin of LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons segment fell from 22.05% to 15.16%.  PBIT margin of City Gas Distribution segment rose from 3.80% to 4.73%.  PBIT margin of Others segment fell from 42.33% to 28.93%.  Overall PBIT margin rose from 3.50% to 7.77%. 

Operating profit margin has jumped from 5.14% to 10.73%, leading to 90.97% rise in operating profit to Rs 14,296.32 crore.  Raw material cost as a % of total sales (net of stock adjustments) increased from 4.65% to 5.50%.   Purchase of finished goods cost fell from 83.95% to 75.54%.   Employee cost increased from 1.25% to 1.71%.   Other expenses rose from 5.08% to 6.53%.  

Other income fell 24.14% to Rs 1007.81 crore.  PBIDT rose 73.62% to Rs 15304.13 crore.  Provision for interest rose 97.16% to Rs 719.2 crore.  Loan funds rose to Rs 21,793.77 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 17,816.18 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Inventories rose to Rs 5,970.00 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 5,917.92 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Sundry debtors were lower at Rs 9,580.27 crore as of 31 March 2024 compared to Rs 10,679.61 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Cash and bank balance rose to Rs 1,712.13 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 1,102.97 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Investments rose to Rs 21,910.04 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 17,248.32 crore as of 31 March 2023 . 

PBDT rose 72.60% to Rs 14584.93 crore.  Provision for depreciation rose 35.92% to Rs 3672 crore.  Fixed assets increased to Rs 75,679.93 crore as of 31 March 2024 from Rs 63,487.08 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Intangible assets increased from Rs 2,856.29 crore to Rs 3,135.35 crore. 

Profit before tax grew 89.85% to Rs 10,912.93 crore.  Share of profit/loss was 11.54% higher at Rs 1682.08 crore.  Provision for tax was expense of Rs 2692.2 crore, compared to Rs 1660.49 crore.  Effective tax rate was 21.38% compared to 22.88%.

Net profit attributable to owners of the company increased 76.27% to Rs 9,899.22 crore. 

Equity capital stood at Rs 6,575.10 crore as of 31 March 2024 to Rs 6,575.10 crore as of 31 March 2023.  Per share face Value remained same at Rs 10.00. 

Promoters’ stake was 51.52% as of 31 March 2024 ,compared to 51.52% as of 31 March 2023 . 

The scrip is currently trading at Rs 195
