Himatsingka Seide (HSL) held a Conference call on 29th October 2007 to discuss the financial performance for the quarter ended September 2007.

On a stand alone basis, the company reported 69% fall in net profit to Rs 5.02 crore on 8% fall in sales to Rs 43.08 crore in the quarter ended September 2007. On a consolidated basis, the company’s net profit was Rs 10.94 crore on a turnover of Rs 252.11 crore during this period. It has not disclosed the consolidated results for the corresponding previous quarter, as three International acquisitions were made in the current calendar year only.

Highlights of the call:

  • The Company has completed its 3rd acquisition in year of a 100% stake in DWI Holdings Inc., New York on October 18, 2007, through its wholly owned subsidiary; Himatsingka America Inc. The enterprise value for the transaction was USD 30 Million. DWI controls the home textile licenses for bed and bath products of luxury brands like Calvin Klein, Barbara Barry and Royal Sateen. This acquisition follows the acquisitions of Giuseppe Bellora, in February 2007 and Divatex Home Fashions Inc., in July 2007.
  • The three acquired entities will collectively contribute Rs 1100 crore in annual revenues. In addition, they will consume the entire capacity of the recently commissioned Rs 400 crore bedding facility at Hassan.
  • Commercial production has commenced at the Hassan Bed Linen facility with an installed capacity of 20 million meters on 12th October 2007. The company expects the plant to achieve 50% capacity utilization during the third quarter and 80% utilization in Q4.
  • The consolidated profits were impacted by Rs 5.1 crore on account of expenses pertaining to the Hassan bed linen facility, which has since commenced commercial production from 12th Oct 2007. Additionally, rupee appreciation and M&A related expenses impacted consolidated profits by Rs 3.1 crore.
  • After receiving an encouraging response for its first overseas store for "Atmosphere" the company has opened its second international store in Singapore on Oct. 12, 2007. Currently the company has total 12 stores within and outside India and expects to expand them upto 20 to 22 by end FY 09.
  • Retail revenues from Himatsingka Wovens Private Limited were up 71% at Rs 9.87 crore in quarter ended September 2007 corresponding to previous quarter. The group now has five strong brands under its fold and is exploring the opportunity of bringing them to India and other Asian markets. The company expects revenue of Rs 1200-1300 crore from global distribution arms coupled with strong retail growth by next year.
  • The 12.5 MW captive power plant at Hassan plant is likely to be operational by the end of March 2009.
  • The company has total debt of Rs 400 Crore of which international debt amounts to Rs 290 Crore, that entails an average cost of 3.5%.
