IndiGo gains after recording PAT of Rs 189 crore in Q2; EBITDAR margin at 16.4%
InterGlobe Aviation rose 1.06% to Rs 2535 after the company has reported a net profit of Rs 188.9 crore in Q2 FY24 as compared with a net loss of Rs 1,583.3 crore in Q2 FY23.

Total income for the quarter ended September 2023 was Rs 15,502.9 crore, an increase of 20.6% over the same period last year. For the quarter, passenger ticket revenues were Rs 13069 crore, an increase of 17.6% and ancillary revenues were Rs 1,551 crore, an increase of 20.5% compared to the same period last year.

Total expenses for Q2 September 2023 were Rs 15,313.8 crore, an increase of 6.1% over the same quarter last year. Fuel costs amounted to Rs 5,856 crore (down 6.4% YoY) and Other costs excluding fuel added up to Rs 9,457.9 crore (up 15.7% YoY).

The company reported an EBITDAR of Rs 2,446.4 crore (16.4% EBITDAR margin), compared to EBITDAR of Rs 229.2 crore (1.8% EBITDAR margin).

Excluding foreign exchange loss, profit amounted to Rs 806.1 crore compared to loss of Rs 381.8 crore, the low-cost carrier said.

The company’s passenger count increased by 33.4% to 26.3 million in Q2 FY24 from 19.7 million in Q2 FY23.

Available seat-kilometer (ASK) jumped 27.7% to 35.3 billion in Q2 FY24 from 27.7 billion posted in Q2 FY23. Revenue passenger-kilometer (RPK) rose by 34.3% to 29.4 billion in Q2 FY24 from 21.9 billion reported in Q2 FY23.

As of 30 September 2023, Indigo had a total cash balance of Rs 30,665.8 crore, comprising Rs 18,082.7 crore of free cash and Rs 12,583.1 crore of restricted cash.

The capitalized operating lease liability was Rs 45,523 crore. The total debt (including the capitalized operating lease liability) was Rs 49,391.7 crore.

IndiGo operated at a peak of 1,958 daily flights during the quarter including non-scheduled flights. During the quarter, provided scheduled services to 79 domestic destinations and 28 international destinations.

Pieter Elbers, the company’s CEO, said: "With our clear strategy and focus on execution, we have completed a full cycle and remained profitable for the last four quarters. We continued to augment our network both domestically and internationally as we added 10 new destinations in the past few months, taking the total number of destinations to 115 as of today."

With reference to future capacity growth, the company stated: "Third quarter of fiscal year 2024 capacity in terms of ASKs is expected to increase by around 25% as compared to the third quarter of fiscal year 2023."

InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) is amongst the fastest growing low-cost carriers in the world. IndiGo has a simple philosophy: offer fares that are low, flights that are on time, and a courteous, hassle-free travel experience. It had a fleet of 334 aircraft as of 30 September 2023.
