Rice producers surge as global shortage looms
Shares of three rice producers rose 5.63% to 9.18% after the media reported that rice production for 2023 is set to log its largest shortfall in two decades.
Chamanlal Setia Exports (up 9.18%), KRBL (up 8.28%) and LT Foods (up 5.63%) surged.

The media reports indicate that the global rice production may experience a shortage in 2023 due to ongoing conflict in Ukraine and weather issues in rice-producing countries like China and Pakistan. This shortage will cause global rice prices to increase, and the Asia-Pacific region, which consumes the majority of the world's rice, will be hit the hardest. The shortage will affect major importers, and rice prices are expected to remain high until 2024.

India is the world's second-largest producer of rice, and the largest exporter of rice in the world.

KRBL processes and exports rice, and it's also the largest rice miller in the world. The company is best known for its "India Gate" brand of basmati rice.

LT Foods is a significant player in the specialty rice market worldwide. The company has a range of power brands, including Daawat, a famous Basmati rice brand in India, and Royal, a well-known Basmati rice brand in North America.

Chamanlal Setia Exports mills and exports rice, and it has a processing unit located in Karnal (Haryana). The company owns the "Maharani" basmati rice brand, which is its flagship product and is well-regarded for its quality and taste.
