Interglobe Aviation has received an order from Sri Lanka Customs levying a penalty of Sri Lankan Rupees 50,000/- (Approximately Rs 13,000/-) for violation of Section 63 of the Customs Ordinance (Chapter 235), Sri Lanka.
The Company had received a Customs notice dated 01 November 2023, alleging departure of flight 6E1176 from Colombo without seeking
clearance from the Sri Lanka Customs.
As per Ground Handling Agent (GHA) Agreement of the Company in Sri Lanka, the GHA is required to obtain all clearances including customs
clearances prior to departure of flights. However, in the given case, customs clearance was not obtained by the GHA and the same was not
communicated to the Captain of the flight prior to departure.
After making relevant submissions, an order dated 11 January 2024 was issued by Sri Lanka Customs imposing penalty of Sri Lankan Rupees
50,000/- (Approximately Rs 13,000/-) and the same has been paid.
