Union Budget Disappoints Electrical industry
Anil Nagrani – Director of IEEMA

Anil Nagrani – Director of IEEMA shares his views on Union Budget 2009-10 as follows: “IEEMA welcomes continuation of reforms, abolition of the Fringe Benefit Tax, and proposed introduction of GST on 1st April 2010. However, the electrical industry is generally disappointed by the Union Budget 2009-10. Considering the government's promise of ‘Electricity For All by 2012' the only specific mention in the entire Union Budget for the power sector includes the allocations of Rs. 7000 crore for RGGVY and Rs. 2080 crore for RAPDRP programme Rs. 2080 crore. However, it is not clear on the flow of funds to power sector. The silver linings in this budget were extending scope of weighted deduction of 150% on expenditure incurred on in-house R&D to all manufacturing industry – which also provides for much needed R&D in the core electrical industry”.
