Reliance Power, part of Reliance ADAG Group has registered 58% growth in consolidated revenue to Rs 2767.89 crore for the quarter ended June 2015. With operating profit margin expand by 610 bps the operating profit jumped by 84% to Rs 1169.58 crore. But the net profit was eventually higher by 41% (to Rs 344.34 crore) as hurt by higher interest, higher depreciation and higher taxation.

• Riding on strong growth in generation the consolidated operational income grew by 58% to Rs 2767.89 crore. Higher generation is largely on account of first full quarter of operation of Sasan UMPP as well as sharp jump in generation of Butibori. Sasan UMPP generated 2141 million units (MU) in Q1FY16 and that of Butibori and Rosa was 6948 MU (up 696%yoy) and 2141 MU (down 13%).
• Expansion in operating profit margin (by 610 bps to 42.3%) was largely on account of lower fuel cost. The cost of fuel as proportion to sales has declined sharply by 1170 bps to 48%. But other cost heads witnessed increase limiting the benefit of fall in fuel cost. The cost of operation was up by 70 bps to 1.9%. The employee cost was up by 30 bps to 1.4%. The other expenses were higher by 470 bps to 6.4%.
• Other income was up by 67% to Rs 95.76 crore. The interest cost was higher by 123% to Rs 575.66 crore and depreciation was up by 89% to Rs 251.05 crore. Higher interest cost and depreciation was due to incremental capacity coming on stream. Thus the growth at PBT was up 46% to Rs 438.63 crore.
• The taxation for the quarter was up 66% to Rs 94.29 crore. Thus the net profit eventually stood higher by 41% to Rs 344.34 crore.
