Reliance Power, part of Reliance ADAG Group has registered 35% growth in consolidated revenue to Rs 1783.24 crore for the quarter ended Sep 2014. Higher sales together with 90 bps expansion in operating profit margin to 33.5% has facilitated 39% growth at operating profit to Rs 597.20 crore. But hurt by lower other income, higher interest and depreciation the PBT was flat at Rs 304.26 crore. However as tax incidence stand lower, the net profit was eventually higher by just 1% to Rs 253.07 crore.
  • Consolidated operational income grew by 35% to Rs 1783.21 crore benefiting largely out of strong generation growth in both Rosa TPP as well as Butibori TPS. The aggregate generation of both Rosa TPP & Butibori TPS in Q2FY15 was up by 35% to 3101.74 million units.
  • Marginal 90 bps expansion in operating profit margin (to 33.5%) was largely on account of lower fuel and employee cost. The cost of fuel as proportion to sales was down by 130 bps to 61.3%. Similarly the employee cost was down by 40 bps to 1.4%. While the cost of operation was up by 10 bps to 1.4%. The other expenses were higher by 70 bps to 2.5%.
  • Other income was down by 26% to Rs 100.94 crore. The interest cost was higher by 57% to Rs 261.08 crore and depreciation was lower by 37% to Rs 132.80 crore. Thus the growth at PBT was flat at Rs 304.26 crore.
  • The taxation for the quarter was down by 4% to Rs 51.19 crore. Thus the net profit eventually stood marginally higher (up 1%) at Rs 253.07 crore.

Half yearly performance

Sales were higher by 45% to Rs 3536.31 crore. But with 120 bps contraction in OPM to 34.8%, the growth at operating profit moderated to 40% to Rs 1231.86 crore. But hurt by higher interest, depreciation and taxation, the net profit was eventually higher by 1% to Rs 497.42 crore.

Other developments

On Nov 11, 2014 the company announced that its 100 MW solar CSP Project at Jaisalmer District of Rajasthan which incidentally the world's largest CSP project based on CLFR Technology has been successfully synchronized with the Grid and power generation has commenced. This plant has 100% off-take of power for 25 years by NVVN, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC. With this the company's total generation capacity increased to 5285 MW of which about 200 MW is renewable energy.

The stock hovers around Rs 72.15.
