Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 32.28 points or 0.18% to 17,599.43

On BSE, 1.97 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 90,905 shares over the past one quarter.

The stock hit a record high of Rs 659.35 in intraday trade today, 29 August 2012. The stock hit a low of Rs 636 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 339.50 on 11 January 2012.

The large-cap stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 28 August 2012, rising 15.38% compared with Sensex's gain of 4.71%. The scrip also outperformed the market in past one quarter, gaining 30.52% as against Sensex's 7.40% surge.

United Breweries said that pursuant to order dated 17 August 2012 of the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka, Court convened meeting of equity shareholders will be held on 24 September 2012 for the purpose of considering and if thought fit, approving the Scheme of Amalgamation between Scottish and Newcastle India and United Breweries and their respective shareholders and creditors.

United Breweries' net profit jumped 38.9% to Rs 98.64 crore on 28.7% growth in net sales to Rs 1225.82 crore in Q1 June 2012 over Q1 June 2011.
