Va Tech Wabag soars after winning consortium order worth Rs 562 crore
Va Tech Wabag jumped 5.40% to Rs 504 after the company bagged a consortium order for a 345 MLD Water Treatment Project from SONEDE, Tunisia worth 215 million Tunisian Dinars.

In a regulatory filing made during market hours today, the company has announced that it has secured a consortium design, build, operate (DBO) repeat order towards 345 MLD Bejaoua drinking water treatment plant, worth about 215 million Tunisian Dinars (approximately EUR 63 million), from Societe Nationale D'exploitation Et De Distribution Des Eaux (SONEDE).

WABAG's excellent track-record with SONEDE for more than 2 decades combined with a technically superior and competitive bid ensured this repeat order win, consolidating WABAG's market position in the North African region.

The scope of WABAG under this order will be engineering & procurement (EP) and operation & maintenance (O&M), which is worth about half of the consortium order value, includes design, engineering and supply of electromechanical equipment including modern and compact lamella clarifiers, installation and commissioning of the plant followed by a one year O&M period.

The project is to be executed with WABAG as Leader of the Consortium and Entreprise Gloulou Mohamed et Salem (EGMS), the consortium partner who will be responsible for all Civil Works of the project. The project, which is funded by French Development Agency (AFD) and European Investment Bank (BEI), will be executed over a period of thirty months followed by operation & maintenance of the plant for a period of twelve months.

At the prevailing exchange rate of 1 Tunisian Dinar equivalent to 26.16 Indian Rupees, the value of the said contract aggregates to Rs 562.52 crore.

Guhan Kandasamy, head of marketing - Africa said, "We thank SONEDE for their continued confidence in WABAG with this repeat order, which was won amidst strong international competition, giving us immense pride and happiness.

WABAG with this large water treatment project continues its contribution to water security in the African continent.

This plant which is one of the largest drinking water treatment plants in WABAG's profile, when completed will be an important reference project for us and will further enhance water security to the capital of Tunisia."
