IEX gains as total volume rises 13% YoY in Sept'23
Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) added 1.85% to Rs 132.05 after it achieved 9,147 million units (MU) total electricity volume in September 2023, registering an increase of 13% on YoY basis.
The overall volume in September 2023 was including green market trade of 230 MU, 5.15 lakh RECs (equivalent to 515 MU) and 1.06 lakh ESCerts (equivalent to 106 MU).

The power exchange said that the demand momentum witnessed in August 2023 continued into September 2023. The country's electricity consumption increased to 140 BU during September 2023, compared to 127 BU in September 2022, marking a YoY increase of 10%.

According to Grid-India, the country recorded an all-time high peak demand of 240 GW on 1 September and the highest-ever single-day energy consumption of 5224 MU on 2 September.

For the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023, IEX achieved 26533 MU resulting in 15% YoY growth across market segments.

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volume achieved 3,467 MU in September 2023. The average market clearing price was Rs 6.23/ unit in September 2023 as compared to Rs 5.63/unit in September 2022, an increase of 11% YoY basis.

The Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) achieved 2,923 MU in September 2023, registering an increase of 33% YoY.

IEX Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead Market segments, achieved 230 MU volume during September 2023.

The Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) achieved 140 MU volume during the month, with a weighted average price of Rs 6.47 per unit. The segment saw participation from 192 market participants during the month.

The Green Term-Ahead Market (G-TAM) achieved 90 MU volume in September 2023, with average monthly price of Solar- Rs 5.69/unit and for Non-Solar- Rs 6.74/unit and for Hydro- Rs 6.43/unit.

A total of 5.15 lakh RECs (equivalent to 515 MU) were cleared in the trading session at IEX held on Wednesday, 27 September, at the price of Rs 500/REC. The next REC trading session at the Exchange is scheduled on Wednesday, 25 October 2023.

During September 2023, 1.06 lakh ESCerts (equivalent to 106 MU) were traded on IEX, at the floor price of Rs 1,840 per ESCert.

IEX is India's premier energy exchange providing a nationwide, automated trading platform for physical delivery of electricity, renewable power, renewable energy certificates and energy saving certificates.

The company's consolidated net profit increased 9.7% to Rs 75.83 crore on 5.8% jump in net sales to Rs 104.04 crore in Q1 FY24 over Q1 FY23.
