InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) has placed a firm order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. This will provide IndiGo a further steady stream of deliveries between 2030 and 2035. The purchase agreement was signed on 19 June 2023 at the Paris Air Show 2023.
The engine selection for this order will be done in due course and so will be the exact mix of A320 and A321 aircraft.
Currently IndiGo operates over 300 aircraft and has previous orders totaling 480 aircraft which are yet to be delivered between today and the end of this decade. With this additional firm order of 500 aircraft for 2030-2035, IndiGo's order-book has almost 1.000 aircraft yet to be delivered well into the next decade. This IndiGo order-book comprises a mix of A320NEO, A321NEO and A321XLR aircraft. The evaluation of the offers was shared and discussed with IndiGo's Board, and consequently endorsed.
"The fuel-efficient A320NEO Family aircraft will allow IndiGo to maintain its strong focus on lowering operating costs and delivering fuel efficiency with high standards of reliability," Indigo said in a statement.
This year IndiGo expects to welcome 100 million customers on board.
IndiGo is amongst the fastest growing low-cost carriers in the world. With its fleet of over 300 aircraft, the airline is operating well over 1.800 daily flights and connecting 78 domestic destinations and will soon further grow its international footprint to 32 international destinations.
On a consolidated basis, IndiGo reported a net profit of Rs 919.20 crore in Q4 FY23 as against a net loss of Rs 1,681.79 in Q4 FY22. Revenue from operations surged 76.55% YoY to Rs 14,160.60 crore in the quarter ended 31 March 2023.
Shares of IndiGo were up 0.65% at Rs 2448.60 on the BSE.
