Larsen & Toubro bagged the order for supply of 4 steam generators of 700 MWe Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) from the Nuclear Power Corporation (NPCIL). The order worth Rs 345 crore involves design, manufacture and supply of 700 MWe PHWRs to Kakrapar Atomic Power Project – 3 & 4.
NCPIL is in the process of setting up of 2 units of 700 MWe each at Kakrapar (KAPP 3&4) and Rawatbhata (RAPP 7&8) and the same was approved by GoI on Oct 2005. KAPP 3&4 is the first 700 MWe rating Nuclear plant of the country and with setting up of these two projects and facilitated the size of future indigenously built nuclear power projects from 540 MWe to 700 MW3.
NPCIL has called tenders for supply of SGs for these 700 MWe plants at KAPP and RAPP in 2008. Infact last week BHEL has bagged a similar Rs 345 crore order for supply of 4 steam generators for KAPP 3&4.
NCPIL is also embarked on moving up the higher capacity units with setting up of 1000 MWe units at Kudankulam i.e. KKNPP-3&4 (2x1000 MWe LWRs) and a new site at Jaitapur, Maharashtra (i.e. 2x1000 MWe LWRs).
