Tata Investment Corporation drops as Q3 net profit declines
Tata Investment Corporation lost 1.87% to Rs 430.60 at 14:05 IST on BSE after the company's net profit from ordinary activities after tax fell 31.4% to Rs 31.25 crore in Q3 December 2011 over Q3 December 2010.

The company announced the results during trading hours today, 16 January 2012.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 11.36 points, or 0.07% to 16,165.98.

On BSE, 3,682 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 2,026 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 446.80 and a low of Rs 428.65 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 396 on 24 November 2011. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 570 on 2 August 2011.

The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 13 January 2012, rising 1.13% compared with Sensex's 0.95% gain. The scrip had, however, underperformed the market over the past one quarter, falling 10.17% as against Sensex's 4.32% fall.

Tata Investment Corporation's total income fell 31.1% to Rs 41.22 crore in Q3 December 2011 over Q3 December 2010.

On implementation of the policy laid down by the board of directors as mentioned in the Directors Report for the year ended 31 March 2011, there has been reduced dependence on profits generated from sale of investments, which is reflected in lower profits for the quarter and nine months ended 31 December 2011, Tata Investment Corporation said.

Tata Investment Corporation said that profit from ordinary activities before tax, excluding profit on sale of investments, increased to Rs 15.34 crore for the quarter ended 31 December 2011 from Rs 10.49 crore for the quarter ended 31 December 2010. Profit from ordinary activities before tax, excluding profit on sale of investments, increased to Rs 99.01 crore for the nine months ended 31 December 2011 from Rs 75.17 crore for the nine months ended 31 December 2010.

The mid-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 55.10 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

Tata Investment Corporation (TIC) is a non-banking financial company. Earlier named the Investment Corporation of India, the company is primarily involved in investing in long-term investments such as equity shares and equity-related securities.
